When should you put someone in memory care?

If you or a loved one has started forgetting things, it may be time to explore options for memory care. There are many times when an assisted living facility is the best option, but each case is different.

One of the first things that you should do if you’re worried about someone’s memory is to take them for a comprehensive evaluation.

What is the average stay in a memory care facility?

A memory care facility is designed for a person with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. These facilities offer patient room accommodations that are similar to the patient’s childhood home or their previous residence before they became ill. It may include a special living area and full-time nursing care staff who provide around-the-clock assistance.

For some patients, it is the best option and allows them to live out their life as comfortably as possible within the confines of a safe environment, surrounded by familiar surroundings and loved ones.

What is the difference between long-term care and memory care?

Long-term care facilities provide a variety of services and amenities for seniors, such as nursing care, social activities, and more. Memory care facilities are specifically designed to meet the needs of those with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia. Learning the difference between these two is key to finding a facility that will best suit your needs and expectations.

What is it like in memory care?

How many hours a day do you sleep? What is your lifestyle like? Are you currently taking medications to treat any conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, dementia, or Parkinson’s disease?
